Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email message when needed to answer it. The message remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive basic technical details when a visitor loads a page:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- The referring website, when available
- Time spent on visited pages
- The device's IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure use, such as popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers combine that traffic data for us. A visitor may block cookies through browser controls, although some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Alcona County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It describes how to reach the Alcona County Sheriff, the local trial courts, Michigan State Police's Criminal Justice Information Center, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not used to build a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by that provider's privacy policy, including its retention and sharing rules. We do not control those policies. Review them before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Alcona County Sheriff, Michigan courts, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside tools. After a visitor leaves our pages, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.
Some advertising services may follow activity across websites to select ads. That tracking occurs on the advertiser's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query
- Advertising networks serving content on our pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices protect the information we collect. No internet system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18 and will delete such information when made aware of it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence. The Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., and criminal-history dissemination law, MCL 28.242, govern public records held by government agencies, not the private visitor data covered by this policy. Subject to applicable law, a user may:
- Opt out of certain data processing
- Request deletion of personal information
- Ask to correct inaccurate information
- Seek a copy of information held about that user

We may revise this policy. Any revision will appear here with a new effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
